Youngster gets Accies chance

Hamilton Accies have launched the career of another youngster by playing 13-year-old goalkeeper Josh Rae in the last few minutes of an SPFL U20 League game against Partick Thistle.

The shot-stopper, who already stands at six foot two and was wanted by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid last summer but opted to remain in Scotland, replaced Blair Currie for the last six minutes of the game that Accies won 3-1 at Firhill.

The New Douglas Park side famously gave Everton star James McCarthy a first-team debut at 15 and in 2012 they played Mark Hill and Danny Armstrong in a game against Ayr United reserves aged 13 and 14.

Secretary Scott Struthers said: “Josh is another example of the Accies Academy producing players who are worthy of competing at higher levels.”
