Heart of Midlothian have completed the double signing of defenders Aaron Hughes and Lennard Sowah on deals until the end of the season.

Thirty-seven year-old Hughes, who has been capped more than 100 times for Northern Ireland, can count Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham and QPR among his former clubs and was most recently playing with Kerala Blasters in India.

Sowah, 24, makes the move to Tynecastle after leaving Hamilton Accies - the 24-year-old left-back has also played for Portsmouth and Hamburg.

Hughes told the Hearts website: “Northern Ireland are obviously in the middle of a World Cup campaign and I was looking to come back and play at a level that will enable me to stay involved with the national team.

“That was the idea behind coming back to the UK and obviously Hearts then came in for me and first impressions of the club have been very good. I’ve had a few weeks off after coming back from India and I’m delighted to get going again now.”
