With the wedding season in full swing, the IRN-BRU Cup is celebrating a marriage of its own as English teams Sutton United and Boreham Wood join the competition for the first time to give the tournament a unique flavour.
The second-round draw will take place this Thursday at 1.00pm at Gretna Green, a site renowned for its romantic wedding traditions dating back over centuries, which originated from cross-border elopements between Scots and English brides and grooms to be.
Former Scotland international, Stuart McCall will be on hand to draw the ginger balls alongside Team GB Olympian Ross Murdoch and host Gavin Wallace.
Stuart was born in Leeds before he embarked on a playing career spanning both sides of the border including spells at Bradford, Everton and Rangers, as well as Scotland making him well placed to cast an expert eye over the resulting ties. Ross, with two Commonwealth Games medals to his name, is also no stranger to international competition.
Situated at the border of Scotland and England, Gretna Green is the second stop of the season for the IRN-BRU Cup as it continues its tour around community venues in Scotland. The IRN-BRU Cup second-round draw will be streamed live via SPFL’s Facebook page and for more details on the IRN-BRU Cup, visit the SPFL website
