Kilmarnock have announced the death of club legend Frank Beattie, who captained Killie to their famous championship win in 1964/65. He was 76 and passed away last Thursday.
Signed by Malcolm MacDonald in October 1953 from Bonnybridge Juniors, Frank was an inside-forward to begin with, but was converted to a wing-half by manager Willie Waddell.
A club statement read: "Undoubtedly the most popular and highly respected player at the club throughout the 1960s, Frank was always renowned for his honest endeavour and commitment to the cause. He was the heart and soul of the team, and a great ambassador for Kilmarnock FC.
"Frank was the first ever player to play over 600 games for Kilmarnock before retirning at the age of 38 in 1972. Only Alan Robertson, the present day Head of Youth, has played more often."
