Annan boss Jim Chapman hopes his side can build on last week’s 3-1 win at East Stirlingshire when they face Berwick at Galabank.

The visitors are ahead of Annan only on goal difference in the race for the play-offs and Chapman said: “It was good to get ahead in the game for the second time last weekend and it was even better that we stayed ahead. Usually Annan put me through every emotion possible as we give sides chances that they should not get.

“People talk about inconsistent teams on a game- by-game basis but we can be an inconsistent side in the one half of football.

“At the Shire we played well and were a goal ahead but then seemed to switch off. That allowed them to get back into things and grab an equaliser. We then switched on again and won 3-1 but the previous week we were ahead against Elgin twice and switched off twice.

“That allowed them to get level twice and then get ahead. After we found ourselves behind we could not recover it.”

The Galabank boss is now looking for his side to deliver results consistently and ensure that their season is extended for a second season running in the play-offs.

Chapman said: “There is a great deal of capability in our side but we need to show it for an entire game and not just part of it. I can go through an emotional wringer at the side of the park as, despite the quality and skill we have in our team, the management of a game needs to be better.

“We need to build on the East Stirling result as we can be a top-four side and seeing off Berwick would put us there. There is room for improvement and, first and foremost, I am looking for a more ruthless side to our game at both ends of the pitch.

“We have to turn more chances into goals to ensure that we kill teams off and relax a bit more. When we don’t score a first, or even a second, goal when we are on top we start to get a touch nervous. When that happens, defenders start to worry about making a mistake that could cost us a goal.

“When they are worrying about making a mistake, they can make one, and you get punished for mistakes in senior football. Hopefully, we can show our improvement by getting ahead, adding to our lead and staying ahead against Berwick.

“They are a decent side and the score is one apiece so far this season. Making it 2-1 to Annan and climbing up the league would be an excellent way to show our progress.”
