Arbroath make the short trip to Montrose this weekend on the back of a 1-0 defeat to East Stirlingshire on Wednesday night.
The Gayfield men missed the chance to top the League 2 table after their 17 shots failed to find the net and Craig Tully’s side had a 100% conversion rate with their one opportunity.
Manager Allan Moore, whose side are yet to win 2015, said: “Football is about putting the ball into the net and getting the three points. It is not about dominating games and leaving empty-handed. That is what happened against East Stirling.
“We are playing decent stuff but we are just not taking our chances. One lapse of concentration at a set-piece allowed them to score and that is why we are sitting where we are in the league and not on top of it.
“I said to the boys after the game that everything is still in our hands. We still have Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park to play as well as the other sides in the league.
“The teams in this league have all improved since the start of the season so we need to improve ourselves to get back to the top.
“East Stirling are certainly showing they are a decent side as they have defeated the top three in recent weeks. I am still not sure how they beat us but you do not always get the results that your play deserves.
“While it was a disappointing result in a disappointing run these things happen in football. We have to move on from it, starting against Montrose this weekend.
“They are fighting for their lives but, while everyone at Arbroath are disappointed just now, we need to realise that we are very much still in the hunt. We are on a bad run but we are playing decent football.
“The squad we have has got us to where we are just now. I also know they are capable of getting us to win the league if we start scoring goals again. All the players can say they have had a chance to get us the win - no-one has grabbed that opportunity yet but hopefully someone will soon.
“We are looking more of a solid unit with Kevin Nicoll and Scott McBride available again but we have to score goals. The strikers are not doing it just now and we need that to change but we are not bringing anyone else in.
“The biggest bug-bear to me is that we started the season so well and had a good lead and we have allowed teams to catch up. Not only that, we have allowed teams to get above us but I am sure Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park will also be saying they have dropped points in games they should have won.”
