League Cup 1st round review

Dundee kicked off their 2014/15 campaign with a 4-0 win over Peterhead in the first round of the League Cup on Saturday.

Simon Ferry, Greg Stewart, Peter MacDonald and Luka Tankulic were all on target for Paul Hartley's men at Dens Park.

Fellow Premiership new boys Hamilton Accies also progressed to round two, with Dougie Imrie and Louis Longridge scoring in a 2-1 home win over Arbroath. Kevin Buchan got the visitors' goal late on.

Falkirk hit back to beat Montrose 3-1 at Links Park. Garry Wood had the League 2 side in front but Blair Alston (penalty), Alex Cooper and Scott Shepherd struck for the Bairns.

Iain Russell grabbed a hat-trick and Derek Lyle weighed in with a double as Queen of the South ran out 5-0 winners against Elgin City at Palmerston.

Andy Graham got the only goal on the hour mark as Dumbarton edged out Brechin City 1-0 at Glebe Park.

Livingston were pushed all the way by Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill but eventually prevailed 4-3 on penalties after the 120 minutes failed to produce a goal.

A first-half goal from Greig Spence was enough to give Alloa a 1-0 victory over Stirling Albion at Recreation Park.

Raith Rovers needed extra time to get the better of Forfar, Grant Murray's men winning 4-2 at Stark's Park. Danny Denholm bagged a brace for the Loons but Ryan Conroy, a double from Calum Elliot - one a penalty - and a Derek Young own goal sent Rovers through.

Second-half goals from Lewis Milne and Kyle Miller earned Cowdenbeath a 2-1 win against Clyde at Broadwood after the Bully Wee had gone ahead through David Gray.

Dunfermline saw off Annan 5-1 at East End Park with goals from Alex Whittle, Gregor Buchanan, Michael Moffat, Ryan Wallace and Lewis Martin. David Hopkirk netted for the visitors.

Joe McKee got both goals for Morton as they knocked out Berwick Rangers 2-1 at Cappielow. Lee Currie converted a penalty for the Borderers, who had Paul Currie sent off.

Craig Malcolm scored a last-minute winner as Stranraer beat East Fife, who had Kevin Smith sent off, 1-0 at Stair Park.

Alan Lithgow, Paul Sludden and Colin McMenamin were on target as Stenhousemuir defeated League 1 rivals Airdrieonians 3-1 at the Excelsior Stadium. Jack Kirwan netted for the Diamonds.

Ayr United beat East Stirlingshire 4-0 at Ochilview. Ryan Donnelly scored twice and Scott McLaughlin (penalty) and Brian Gilmour also netted for Mark Roberts’ men. Shire had David McKenna dismissed, with all the goals coming in the second half.
