Former SPL Chairman Lex Gold was honoured when The Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) celebrated the fourth Anniversary of its Constitution in Florence last week.
He received the EPFL 2008/09 Special Award for his outstanding contribution to the progress and development of Professional Football both at national and European level.
Lex stepped down at the recent SPL General Meeting after more than 10 years at the helm. He also served the EPFL as member of the Board of Directors and as Leagues’ representative in the UEFA Professional Football Strategy Council, in the last two seasons.
Neil Doncaster, CEO of the SPL, delivered an acceptance speech on Lex’s behalf: "It has been an honour to work with you all over the last 10 years to establish the EPFL as a major force in European football and to see it established at the centre of the governance of the game in Europe.
"I was surprised, but delighted, to have been appointed by EPFL members to both the Board of the EPFL and to represent the EPFL on the UEFA Professional Football Strategy Committee. Much has been achieved since the establishment of the EPFL and it has been a privilege to be part of that.
"I shall treasure this EPFL golden globe special award from you, my colleagues, and it will serve as a warm reminder of you and of the progress you are making in moving our great game forward in Europe and beyond."
In a separate event last week, Lex also received a Silver Salver from the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs to mark his decade of service to the league.
