Queen of the South midfielder Ryan McGuffie has ended nearly four years with his home town team to pursue the opportunity of playing in Australia.

The 33-year-old former Queen's Park, Annan, Newcastle United and Morton player joined the Doonhamers in May 2010 and has featured in over 100 games.

A groin injury has restricted his appearances this season but he is keen to get himself fully fit and ready to play on the other side of the world.

Manager Jim McIntyre said: “Ryan asked to be released as he has the opportunity to play in Australia. It is a lifestyle choice for him and we have agreed that he can move on.

“He was a popular player at the club and I wish him well in the rest of his career.”
