McLean boost for Buddies

St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Paisley club until the summer of 2016.

St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Paisley club until the summer of 2016.

The 22-year-old, who made his debut for Saints in 2010, had been linked with a move elsewhere but he has instead opted to stay.

McLean told the club website: "Having looked at various options, I decided it would be better to stay at St Mirren and continue my development here. I’m really looking forward to continuing where I left off last season.”

Meanwhile, St Mirren boss Tommy Craig has snapped up 19-year-old Manchester City defender Ellis Plummer on a one-year loan deal.

Patrick Vieira, head coach of the Manchester City Elite Development squad, said: “The experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership will be of huge benefit to Ellis.

"I’m looking forward to seeing the progress he makes up in Scotland, and we wish Ellis and St Mirren well for the coming season.”
