Queen’s Park will need to get the better of Barry Ferguson on and off the pitch if they are to pick up a win when they open up their League 2 campaign by hosting Clyde.
Gus MacPherson’s new-look Spiders will face up to former Rangers and Scotland captain Ferguson as he looks to get his Bully Wee league career off to a flying start.
The Hampden chief, who was a team-mate of Ferguson’s older brother Derek at Rangers in the late eighties, said: “It is a fantastic coup for Clyde to bring Barry in as their player and manager. He has had a fantastic career and gained some managerial experience as well at Blackpool so it was a great move by them.
“This game will have a lot of added attention as it is Barry’s first league match and I am sure that he will be looking to make an impact both on and off the park.
“Games between the clubs are usually feisty affairs as the rivalry goes back to when the clubs were both based in Glasgow’s south side and I am sure this one will be no different. It will also have an extra level of spice involved as the Clyde players will be out to impress their new manager.”
