Mitchell aims to shut out Pars

League 1 leaders Stranraer entertain Dunfermline on Saturday, with both sides looking to shake off disappointing results and enhance their promotion credentials with a win.

League 1 leaders Stranraer entertain Dunfermline on Saturday, with both sides looking to shake off disappointing results and enhance their promotion credentials with a win.

The Blues went down 2-0 to second-placed Morton last weekend, with the Pars suffering consecutive 1-0 defeats to fellow top-four hopefuls Forfar and Brechin in the past week.

Stranraer goalkeeper David Mitchell said: “We were happy with the performance at Cappielow but we lost bad goals at bad times. We showed we could compete with a full-time side at their ground and that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“It has been a good season for us so far but it is still early days and we are learning as we go along. The main thing is to keep the high standard of our form going.

“Last season, when we finished fourth, was not a one-off.  People wrote us off as a side that would be relegated and we proved them wrong. Some people wrote us off again at the start of this season and hopefully we will prove them wrong again and make the play-offs at least.

“We have a great team spirit at the club and that has helped us out over the years. I have been here for five years and other lads like Chris Aitken and Sean Winter have been here for four, as has Craig Malcolm, who has also been to Ayr and back.

“We need that in every game and we will need that in abundance against Dunfermline. We need to be wary of them as they have a squad packed with good players.

“We went to their place and won two massive games there recently - with one game in the Scottish Cup and one in the league. That was great but it is in the past now.

“Those results give Dunfermline an extra incentive to add to catching us in the league. As I said, they are a good side but if we put in the same level of performance as last weekend at Cappielow, but take the mistakes out, then we will do well. Staying top of the league after a visit from Dunfermline would be a good result.”
