Queen of the South have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Chris Mitchell could be out for at least two months due to a back injury.
The 26-year-old former Falkirk and Bradford City player has been troubled by a disc problem and is set for scan to discover the extent of the problem.
Boss Jim McIntyre said: “We are bracing ourselves for bad news. We had hoped that sitting out of some of our pre-season programme would help Chris but it has not.
“If he needs surgery he will join Stephen McKenna in being out for a good part of the season. Injuries are part and parcel of football but it is still disappointing news.”
