Montrose last night named George Shields as their new manager following the recent departure of Stuart Garden.

Shields, who will be assisted by Lee Wilkie, was previously No 2 at Links Park and has been in caretaker charge in recent weeks.

A club statement read: "Montrose FC are pleased to announce the appointment of George Shields as first-team manager and Lee Wilkie as assistant manager.

"Lee, currently assistant manager at Lochee United, will join the club following completion of their fixtures whilst John McCafferty, goalkeeping coach, continues to complete the management team.

“The club are confident the management team will ensure Montrose FC are a highly competitive team and contend for promotion to SPFL League 1.”

Montrose complete their League 2 campaign away to East Stirlingshire on Saturday, with Shire having named Craig Tully as their new boss after John Coughlin decided to step down at the end of the season.
