Montrose manager Steven Tweed finally got his man yesterday when Cowdenbeath agreed to let striker John Gemmell move to Links Park. Tweed has been courting Gemmell for over a month and the deal looked to be over as the clubs could not agree a fee however a private backer has stepped in to ensure that Tweed's attack has been bolstered for next season
Tweed said, "John is a proven goalscorer in the Third Division and will be a great acquisition for Montrose. He always impressed me when I played against him and that made me even more determined to bring him here."
The 36 year old added, "I am delighted that someone has stepped in to help the club to finance the deal and I am sure they will not be disappointed in the investment they have made."
If all the registration documentation goes through on time Gemmell will go straight into Tweed's squad for tonight's game with Livingston at Links Park.
Former Inverness Caledonian striker Martin Jack has ended his short period at Stenhousemuir by signing for Stranraer after scoring for the Blues as a trialist last Saturday against Threave Rovers. Jack had been farmed out to Camelon Juniors by Ochilview boss John Coughlin last season
Arbroath's former Dundee and Cowdenbeath winger Scott Gates has re-signed for the Gayfield club for a second season.
