Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray is looking for his side to build on last week’s 1-0 win at Falkirk by seeing off Cowdenbeath at Central Park on Saturday.
The Kirkcaldy club ended a disappointing recent run thanks to a 79th-minute goal at the Falkirk Stadium, when Ryan Conroy swept home a Rory McKeown cross.
Murray said: “We had lost four games in a row but our performance levels were good, especially away from home. However, you need a win to go on a run that can change your season and we have that now. If we can be as consistent now as we were at the start of the season we can climb the table.
“It is a good feeling, especially after the run we have been on. Sometimes you have to dig deep and then dig even deeper and that is what the players did at Falkirk.
“David McGurn made some great saves, and we are used to that, but scoring when we did with 11 minutes left was a good time. We had a bit about us after the goal as we were determined not to be beaten.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s game, Murray said: “Fife derbies are always massive games and this one will be no different. They are always hard games and while we have done well so far this season against Cowdenbeath that goes for very little come Saturday.
“Hopefully confidence from the Falkirk game will help us and, in fact, we should be looking to what Falkirk have done recently.
“Four games ago they were below us in the league and then put a run together. We have been unfortunate as it was a good performance against Hibs until it went 3-1 to them.
“That came after a bit of luck went against us at Dumbarton when we lost an injury-time penalty after playing really well. Hopefully things are turning now for Raith.”
Murray has been joined at Stark’s Park by former Dundee United and Scotland defender Maurice Malpas, who has taken on the role of Director of Football.
Murray said: “I am delighted the club have brought in Maurice. It was a role I spoke about when I had a meeting with the new chairman Alan Young a couple of weeks ago.
“Maurice has tremendous experience of the game in this country, Europe and internationally, and to have that on board at Raith Rovers can only be positive.
“He will help move the club forward and I am looking forward to working with him. When Paul Smith left earlier this season a position became available to work alongside Laurie Ellis and myself.
“When I was asked my thoughts about Maurice coming in I was delighted and I am sure he is too, as it is a fantastic opportunity for him.
“His role will entail a wide variety of things and one of those will be forward planning as well as scouting. He will be on the training pitch at times as well and we have to make the most of him being here.”
