@splstats looks at some of the numbers behind Sunday’s Petrofac Training Cup Final between Livingston and Alloa at McDiarmid Park.

24 Sunday is the 24th final in a competition that began life as the B&Q Centenary Cup in 1990/91 and was won by Dundee in that season. The tournament was not held in 1998/99. Livingston have previously appeared in the final – they faced Airdrieonians at Broadwood in 2000/01, and lost on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Future Livi stars Javier Sanchez Broto and David Fernandez were on the opposing side that day. Only one side have lost their first two finals in this competition – that was Ayr United, who were defeated by Dundee and Hamilton Accies in 1990/91 and 1991/92.

8 Alloa Athletic previously tasted Challenge Cup success back in 1999/00, when they took part in the highest-scoring final in the history of the competition. The Wasps defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties after a thrilling 4-4 draw at the Excelsior Stadium. Alloa are aiming to join a select band of clubs who have won the cup more than once. Falkirk, Airdrie, Queen of the South, Ross County, Hamilton and Dundee have won the tournament on more than one occasion.

3 Livingston forward Myles Hippolyte has developed a reputation as a supersub in this season's competition, scoring as a substitute in three of his side's four ties. He put his team 3-2 up in extra-time in their round one clash with Queen of the South, a match which they eventually won 4-3. In the following round, he scored the third goal as Livingston comprehensively routed eventual Championship winners Hearts 4-1 at the Energy Assets Arena. Hippolyte's most important contribution came in the quarter-final against Peterhead at Balmoor when he scored the only goal of the game in the 113th minute. Hippolyte failed to score against Stranraer in the semi-final, but did find the net with his penalty as Livi won the tie 5-4 on spot-kicks.

7 Alloa striker Greig Spence is the top scorer in this season's Petrofac Training Cup, with seven goals in his side's four matches so far. Spence netted a hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Arbroath and then doubles in their win over Stirling Albion and their semi-final success against Rangers. Amazingly, this is more than double Spence's tally in the league this season – he has only found the net on three occasions in the Championship. Spence is looking for back-to-back successes – he was part of the Raith Rovers side which won the trophy last season.

1  Livingston and Alloa Athletic will be meeting in the Challenge Cup for the first ever time. The sides have been drawn together in cup competitions on three previous occasions, all in the Scottish Cup, with Livi picking up two wins to Alloa's one. In 2004/05, the Lions defeated the Wasps 1-0 at Recreation Park in a fourth-round tie. The sides were paired together again in the following season's third round, with Alloa coming out on top following a replay, winning 2-1 at Almondvale after a 1-1 draw at Recreation Park. The most recent cup meeting between the sides came in round three in 2007/08, when Livi comfortably dispatched their opponents 4-0 at Almondvale.
