Scotland will take on the Czech Republic in their vital EURO 2012 qualifying match on Saturday on a perfect Hampden pitch according to the managers that were in charge of the last competitive game on the ground. Queen’s Park and Berwick Rangers fought out a 1-1 draw in the Third Division in front of 504 fans in the National Stadium and whilst the crowd was low the standard of the turf was high.
The Spiders’ Head Coach Gardner Speirs said, “The surface is in really good condition especially when you consider there were a number of concerts on it during the summer. It has improved every week since we started playing on it again at the end of July and last Saturday it was in superb condition.”
Opposite number Jimmy Crease added, “The pitch at Hampden was terrific last week and if Queen’s Park and Berwick Rangers could pass the ball around easily on it, I am sure Craig Levein’s lads can do the same.”
