Funeral for long serving Queen's Park defender Willie Neil being hekd

Queen’s Park stalwart Willie Neil, who was the Spiders centre half from 1960 to 1971 and made it in to their top ten of appearance makers in competitive matches passed away last week.

Neil, who played in over 400 matches including the 5-3 quarter-final Scottish Cup defeat by Celtic in the Spiders’ Centenary Season of 1967, served the club after his playing days as a Committee Member and  a member of their former players association ‘The Queensparkers’.

The funeral for Neil, who also had a long career in The Royal Bank of Scotland, will take place at 3 pm today at Mortonhall Crematorium Edinburgh with Queen’s Park General Manager Christine Wright saying: “The sympathies have been extended by all at Queen’s Park Football Club to Willie’s family.”
