Queen's Park have appointed Gus MacPherson as their new manager following the December departure of Gardner Speirs

Queen's Park have appointed Gus MacPherson as their new manager following the December departure of Gardner Speirs.

The former St Mirren boss has been out of the game since leaving Queen of the South at the end of the 2011/12 season.

His first match at the helm will be against League 2 leaders Peterhead at Balmoor on Saturday and the 45-year-old ex-Kilmarnock player said: "I am both delighted and honoured to become the Head Coach of Queen’s Park and very much look forward to the challenges ahead.

"Whilst this has been a difficult season for Queen’s Park, we should not forget the club has been involved in the play-offs consistently over the last five seasons."

A club spokesperson added: "Queen’s Park would like to thank everyone who expressed an interest in the recently-advertised Head Coach position.

"The standard of applicants was exceedingly high, making for an extremely competitive recruitment process. We would also like to acknowledge the amount of preparation work undertaken by those interviewed and thank them for their efforts."
