Rangers saw off St Mirren 3-1 at a sold-out Ibrox on Friday evening as the 2015/16 Ladbrokes Championship campaign got under way.

Lee Wallace fired Mark Warburton's side ahead early on and the full-back struck again in 26 minutes but former Burnley player Cameron Howieson pulled one back before half-time.

Steven Thompson had a great chance to equalise 11 minutes after the restart but he sent his penalty high over the bar after Paul McMullan had been tripped by James Tavernier.

Substitute Dean Shiels forced home the third goal from close range with a couple of minutes left after Mark Ridgers had done well to save his initial effort.
