Ayr United Manager Mark Roberts has received a boost ahead of their season starting against Clyde tomorrow when veteran defender Martyn Campbell reversed his decision to retire from the game.
Campbell had advised the Somerset Park club that he would not be retiring after a succession of injuries had blighted him over the past two seasons however the 33 year old has decided to give football another go.
Roberts said: “Martyn is a big figure at this club and is also a really good centre half. I think he was frustrated as he did not play as often as he would have liked last season and that was behind his initial decision.”
“He rested over the summer and was missing being involved so he called to see if he could come in for pre-season. He has now played in a couple of games and is signing on for the new campaign. I am pleased and so is Martyn as he was not ready to give the game up yet.”
