Aberdeen thrashed Motherwell 7-2 at Pittodrie on Wednesday night to move three points clear in second place in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Jonny Hayes set the tone by scoring inside two minutes and Andy Considine, Adam Rooney and Ryan Christie were all on target before the break.

Rooney converted a penalty then completed his hat-trick midway through the second half before Ryan Bowman and Stephen Pearson reduced the deficit.

Substitute Peter Pawlett rounded things off as the Dons netted seven for the first time since beating Morton 7-3 after extra time in a League Cup tie in 1996/97.
