Arbroath went down narrowly to Bolton Wanderers, losing 2-1 at Gayfield, while Motherwell lost out 1-0 away to Barrow.
Montrose lost 3-0 to an Aberdeen XI at Links Park and Forfar Athletic were beaten 2-1 by Inverurie Locos at Station Park.
