Rovers continue to defy the odds

Darren Young is happy for Albion Rovers to fly under the radar in Ladbrokes League 1 after being hit with budget cuts in the summer.

Darren Young is happy for Albion Rovers to fly under the radar in Ladbrokes League 1 after being hit with budget cuts in the summer.

The Coatbridge player/manager has his team sitting in the play-offs, having taken 14 points from the first 10 games, ahead of Saturday’s trip to his former club Alloa.

The 38-year-old told Ladbrokes News: "We're happy with the performances, happy how we're playing against teams with bigger budgets. If we can get into the play-offs then that's massive for a club like us. We're tiny in comparison to these clubs around about us.

"Everyone spoke last season about how good a job we did and we went into this season looking to improve, but the wage budget was cut again so you have to deal with that while trying to put out as strong a team as possible.

"If we do well and have as good a season as last then we'll be there or thereabouts. But, as we've said, there's a long way to go and a lot of football to be played."
