Queen of the South striker Iain Russell is hoping that breaking his barren run at one of his favourite grounds will help ensure the Doonhamers get into the play-offs.
The 31-year-old netted the first goal as Jim McIntyre’s side defeated promotion rivals Dumbarton 3-0 at the Bet Butler Stadium last Saturday.
He said: “That was my first goal in 11 games so I was delighted with it. I had not scored since I was sent off at Morton at the end of January so I was glad to get that monkey off my back.
“I was at Dumbarton for three seasons and scored a few goals so it is usually a good ground for me - I scored there earlier this season as well and netted for Livingston last season. Dumbarton are having a good season so it was a great win for us.
“That got us three points ahead of them but nothing has been achieved as yet. However, we have the momentum now and I am glad my goal played a part in that.”
