Saturday review

A round-up of today's matches across all four divisions of the SPFL...

Celtic paid tribute to club legend Billy McNeill before beating Kilmarnock 1-0. Jozo Simunovic, wearing the iconic No 5 shirt, scored the only goal as Neil Lennon’s team moved to within a point of the Ladbrokes Premiership title. Rangers host Aberdeen and Hibernian play Hearts in the other top-six games tomorrow. It was a dramatic day in the bottom six, with Dundee now seven points adrift at the foot of the table after losing 4-3 to a last-minute goal at Motherwell. St Mirren scored late to draw 1-1 with St Johnstone in Paisley and stay two points behind Hamilton Accies, who drew 3-3 with Livingston at the Hope CBD Stadium.

Dundee United defeated Falkirk 2-0 at Tannadice in the Ladbrokes Championship to leave the Bairns three points adrift at the foot of the table. Alloa are second from bottom after losing 2-1 at home to Inverness CT and Partick Thistle could still end up in the relegation play-off spot following a 2-1 loss to Ayr United at Firhill. Morton are safe thanks to a 1-0 victory against Dunfermline Athletic, who will also stay up.

Montrose sealed a promotion play-off place in Ladbrokes League 1 despite losing 1-0 to Forfar Athletic at Station Park. Raith Rovers beat Brechin City 3-2 at Stark’s Park so City are now bottom as relegation rivals Stenhousemuir drew 1-1 with East Fife at Ochilview. Champions Arbroath lost 3-0 at Airdrieonians and Dumbarton beat Stranraer 2-1.

The Ladbrokes League 2 title race will go to the final day after Stirling Albion scored in stoppage time at Peterhead to earn a 1-1 draw and prevent a party. That allowed Clyde, who beat Queen’s Park 3-0 at Broadwood, to close the gap to two points. Albion Rovers completed their great escape with a 3-0 win at Berwick Rangers who will now face Cove Rangers or East Kilbride in a play-off in a bid to retain their SPFL status. Cove won the first leg 2-1 at K-Park. In the day’s other League 2 games, Annan Athletic beat Cowdenbeath 3-2 at Galabank and Edinburgh City drew 1-1 with Elgin City at Ainslie Park.
