Morton have parted company with manager Kenny Shiels in the wake of Saturday's 10-2 defeat to Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park.

The former Kilmarnock boss replaced Allan Moore in December but was unable to prevent the Greenock club from being relegated to League 1.

A statement on the Morton website read: “We would confirm that, following the result against Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park on Saturday, manager Kenny Shiels has tendered his resignation. This has been accepted with regret by the Board of Directors.”

Shiels said: “I'm extremely disappointed that things didn't work out at Greenock Morton and would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone associated with the club all the very best for the future.”
