Shire chairman explains baby dash

Ford had to get McKechnie off bench

East Stirling chairman Tony Ford had to make a mad dash around the pitch on Ochilview on Saturday during his side’s game with Albion Rovers to drag one of his players off the substitutes’ bench as his partner had gone into labour.

Ford received a phone call from Jordan McKechnie’s dad informing him that it looked like his first baby was on its way and Ford had to run from the Main Stand to the other side of the pitch to get McKechnie to leave.

Fans were unaware of the reason and were wondering if McKechnie had done something wrong with Ford saying: “For a man suffering from Parkinson’s Disease I thought I showed a decent turn of speed to get round the ground to get Jordan off the subs bench.  Some people have got in touch wondering what he had done wrong to be sent away but there was a much nicer reason for his departure.”

Baby daughter Lucia was born on Sunday and all is well with Ford joked: “We had one late delivery on Saturday as Callum Gallagher scored our equaliser in injury time and then Jordan had a late delivery on Sunday.”
