East Stirlingshire’s board will get together tomorrow night to discuss the 20 plus applications they have received to replace head coach John Coughlin, who is leaving at the end of the season.
Former Shire player and ex-Stenhousemuir assistant manager Kevin McGoldrick is one of the favourites and has been joined in the chase by further ex-Shire players, with Craig Tully and Scott Walker among those who have applied.
Tully was a player/coach at the club before joining their ex-manager Jim McInally at League 2 champions Peterhead, with former centre-back Walker well remembered for his services to the club before heading for St Mirren in 1999.
Chairman Tony Ford said: “It is good to have such solid interest in the position from people who know the possibilities and limitations at our club. We have over 20 applications just now and I am expecting that number to rise before Thursday’s deadline.
“We are open minded about who the new coach will be and while Sir Alex Ferguson has managed both East Stirling and Manchester United we are not expecting an application from David Moyes despite yesterday’s news.”
