Sons reveal stadium plans

Dumbarton are pressing on with plans to leave the Bet Butler Stadium and move to a new ground.

Dumbarton are pressing on with plans to leave the Bet Butler Stadium and move to a new ground.

The Sons have today submitted Proposal of Application Notices to West Dunbartonshire Council, which will be followed by community consultation before the planning applications are lodged in January 2015.

The Championship club are hoping to build a 4,000 capacity venue (3,000 seats and 1,000 standing) at Young's Farm to the west of Dumbarton, bounded by the River Leven to the east, A82 to the north and railway line to the west.

Dumbarton have been at their 2,000-capacity home since 2000, following the move from Boghead.

A club spokesman said: "The club has been looking for a new site for a stadium for over five years and we are excited to now progress plans for a new sporting facility that can put Dumbarton FC at the heart of the local community.

"Consultations have been had with our Supporters Trust, and our forthcoming public exhibition will allow supporters and local residents to view and comment on our proposals.”
