Sons sign Lithgow

Dumbarton bring in former Hearts and Clyde defender

Dumbarton have completed the signing of former Hearts defender Alan Lithgow from Third Division Clyde with the 23 year old signing a one season deal at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Dumbarton Alan Adamson with new signing Alan LithgowLithgow joined the Tynecastle side as a 16 year old from East Kilbride Burgh United and made one top team appearance as a substitute in a 4-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup win over Alloa in 2006 and he also made three appearances for Stirling Albion during a loan spell the following season.

The big centre back moved to the Bully Wee following his release from the Edinburgh club 3 years ago, making his debut in a First Division match against St Johnstone in November 2008, and he remained at the Cumbernauld club playing in over since then despite strong interest from Morton last season.

Sons’ Manager Alan Adamson said, “Alan will have an influence in our back-four and he has experience after playing in nearly 80 games for Clyde. We are now back in pre-season training and as we get the squad together the trick is getting the balance right and Alan helps us do that.”

“We have a tough start to the league campaign away to Airdrie and then home to Stirling Albion so it is important that we get down to work quickly.”
