Partick Thistle striker Kris Doolan got 2015 off to a flying start with a four-goal salvo against Hamilton Accies in a 5-0 Firhill success last month.
The one-time Kello Rovers and Auchinleck Talbot frontman has recently completed six years of service with the Jags and is the latest player to fall under the SPFL Spotlight - ahead of Thistle’s home game with Premiership leaders Celtic at Firhill tonight, live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm.
What is the best goal you have ever scored?
That has to be the one for Partick Thistle last season against Hibs at Easter Road. I picked up the ball on the halfway line, kept on going through their defence and finished it with a little dink over the goalkeeper. It looked like it would be the winner but Hibs scored in injury time to grab a 1-1 draw.
What is the best game you have played in?
Definitely the recent Hamilton Accies game at Firhill, when I scored four times and we won 5-0. I scored a few hat-tricks in my Junior days but had never scored one for Thistle, so to score four times was brilliant.
What is your favourite away ground?
I quite often associate grounds with good memories so Easter Road will always be special to me after that goal last season. I have always enjoyed going to Celtic Park, as it is the biggest stadium to play in, and I enjoyed being involved at Hampden for a game against Queen’s Park.
What is your favourite other sport?
I enjoy golf although I do not play as often as I would like. I usually play in the summer to relax after a hard season.
Which player in the world would you bring to Partick Thistle?
I would have really liked to have played with Diego Maradona at the height of his game. Like me, he is left-footed and I always prefer left-footed players. I would have loved to have played with him just to see the moments of magic he could come up with.
What is your favourite pre-match meal?
I have a regular pre-match meal, which is the same from when I played at Kello and Auchinleck. I have poached eggs on toast, washed down with lots of water.
What is your favourite music?
I like a bit of everything and am happy to listen to whatever comes on, apart from heavy rock music which does nothing for me. Anything you can dance to is probably my favourite and that is why I enjoy my car journeys into training with Ryan Stevenson who is big into his eighties music, especially Erasure!
Who is the biggest moaner you have played with?
Kallum Higginbotham is hard going on the pitch but that is down to his will to win. Away from the pitch he is a cracking lad but on it he is a moaner!
Who has been your most skilful team-mate?
Chris Erskine, who I actually played against in the Juniors when he was with Kilbirnie Ladeside, and that shows you how much things can change in football. He joined Thistle not long after I did six years ago and I have seen him produce flicks and tricks that changed games.
What about your worst dressed team-mate?
I know Ryan (Stevenson) gave this to Aaron Muirhead recently and I do not think I could argue with his selection. He was always getting pelters for his clothes and now we need a new target as Aaron is at Falkirk!
Who is the best trainer at the club?
I have worked with a lot of boys who worked really hard at their game - boys that put in plenty of effort every day and I would like to think my team-mates would view me the same. From our outfield players I would pick Christie Elliott and from the goalkeepers I would say Scott Fox - in fact it could be any of our goalies as they all work incredibly hard every day.
And the best dancer?!
Kris Doolan!
