European Leagues to promote and encourage physical activity through the power of football.

The Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) and its Members Leagues will be supporting the European Week of Sport campaign through a variety of initiatives and activities leading up to and during the week of September 7-13, 2015 as per the partnership signed by EPFL Chairman Frédéric Thiriez and the EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics.

In the context of this co-operation, the European Leagues agree with the principles set out for the European Week of Sport and will support and contribute, with their communication platforms and audience reach, to the raising awareness activities and initiatives developed by the European Commission.

By leveraging the reach and popularity of the best professional leagues in the world, the EPFL will help spread the key messages and values of the campaign such as the many benefits that sport and physical activity have for individuals and society as a whole.

Neil Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPFL, said: "Sport plays a hugely significant role in Scottish society. Supporting the European Week of Sport provides us with an opportunity to raise awareness of the good work undertaken by our clubs at the heart of their local communities, helping bring people together whilst encouraging them to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle.”
