Road to the final: Raith Rovers have beaten Forfar Athletic (1-0), East Fife (3-1), Inverness CT (on penalties after a 0-0 draw) and Kilmarnock (2-1) to reach the final. Queen of the South have knocked out Broomhill (3-0), Partick Thistle (2-0), Morton (2-1) and Cove Rangers (1-0).
History: This is the 29th final of a competition that began life in 1990/91 as the Centenary Cup to celebrate 100 years of the Scottish Football League. Dundee were the first winners. The most recent final played was in 2018/19 when Ross County beat Connah’s Quay Nomads 3-1.
Cup pedigree: Raith Rovers beat Rangers 1-0 to win the trophy in 2013/14. They are the joint holders, along with Inverness CT, after the 2019/20 final wasn’t played due to the pandemic and there was no tournament last season. Queen of the South are appearing in their fifth final. They have won twice before - 2-0 against Brechin City in 2002/03 and on penalties against Partick Thistle after a 1-1 draw in 2012/13.
Season so far: The teams have already met four times in the cinch Championship, with one win each and two draws.
Past meeting: The only previous Challenge Cup encounter was in September 1994 when Raith Rovers won 2-0 at Palmerston.
In the event of a draw: Extra time and, if necessary, kicks from the penalty mark will settle the outcome if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
