Road to the final: Raith Rovers have knocked out four fellow Championship sides to reach the final. They won 1-0 at Cove Rangers then beat Morton on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Ian Murray’s men edged out Queen’s Park 1-0 at Ochilview in the quarter-final and defeated Dundee on penalties at Dens Park in the semi-final after coming from behind to draw 2-2.

Hamilton Accies kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win over Rangers B at Dumbarton then beat Inverness CT 2-0 at New Douglas Park. John Rankin’s men overcame Clyde 3-2 in the last eight and defeated Queen of the South in their semi-final, progressing 2-1 after extra time.

History: This is the 30th final of a competition that began life in 1990/91 as the Centenary Cup to celebrate 100 years of the Scottish Football League. Dundee were the first winners, beating Ayr United 3-2 after extra time at Fir Park with a Billy Dodds hat-trick.

Cup pedigree: Raith Rovers are the current holders, having beaten Queen of the South 3-1 in last season’s final at the Excelsior Stadium. The Stark’s Park club also lifted the trophy in 2013/14 when they shocked Rangers 1-0 after extra time at Easter Road. Rovers were declared joint winners in 2019/20, along with Inverness CT, when the final was not played due to the pandemic. Hamilton Accies beat Ayr United 1-0 in the 1991/92 final and defeated Morton 3-2 a year later. They have also been runners-up on two occasions.

Season so far: Raith Rovers have won all three league meetings between the teams this season, most recently 1-0 at New Douglas Park on January 2.

Last weekend: Rovers thrashed Cove Rangers 6-1 at Stark’s Park while Accies lost 2-0 at home to Ayr United. Raith are sixth in the cinch Championship, with Hamilton in 10th place.

In the event of a draw: Extra time and, if necessary, kicks from the penalty mark will settle the outcome if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
