St Johnstone v Hibernian preview

The first of the Betfred Cup semi-finals takes place at Hampden Park on Saturday, live on Premier Sports with a 5.30pm kick-off

Road to Hampden: St Johnstone finished ahead of Dundee United to top their group then beat Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park in the last 16. They faced Dunfermline Athletic in the quarter-final at East End Park and won on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Hibernian won their section with a 100% record before beating Dundee 1-0 at Easter Road and Alloa Athletic 2-1 at the Indodrill Stadium in the knock-out stages.

League Cup pedigree: St Johnstone are bidding to win the trophy for the first time. They were runners-up to Celtic in 1969/70 and Rangers in 1998/99. Hibs have won the League Cup on three occasions – in 1972/73, 1991/92 and 2006/07.

Past meetings: Hibs won 1-0 at McDiarmid Park in the Premiership back in August and the sides drew 2-2 at Easter Road in November. The teams met at this stage of the League Cup in 2015/16, when John McGinn scored the winner for Hibs in a 2-1 victory at Tynecastle.

Recent form: Jack Ross’ side were 2-0 winners against Kilmarnock at Easter Road last weekend and are sitting third in the Premiership table. Callum Davidson’s men followed a run of three draws with a 1-0 home win over St Mirren last weekend and are in eighth place.
