Scottish Communities League Cup Semi-Final Matchday ProgrammeThe Scottish Football League has produced a souvenir Matchday Programme for The Scottish Communities League Cup Semi-Final between St. Mirren and Celtic.

The Matchday Programme has extensive coverage of both Semi-Finalists including an interview with the St. Mirren management team of Danny Lennon and Tommy Craig as well as features on ’keeper Craig Samson, who is playing at Hampden for the first time in his career, Saints’ skipper, Jim Goodwin, former Celts, Paul McGowan and David Van Zanten, and midfielder, Gary Teale, who played in an English League Cup Final for Wigan Athletic in 2006.  Similarly, the Matchday Programme has interviews with the Celtic boss, Neil Lennon, last season’s Scotland Player of the Year, Charlie Mulgrew, midfielders Joe Ledley and Kris Commons, as well as strikers Georgios Samaras and Tony Watt.

The Matchday Programme also has an exclusive interview with Davie Hay, who played and managed Celtic and also managed St. Mirren.  Hay also played and scored in the only previous League Cup Semi-Final meeting between the clubs which Celtic won 3-0 on Wednesday, 6th October, 1971.  Hay played in five consecutive League Cup Finals for the Hoops although his only success came in his first appearance in season 1969/70 when Celtic defeated St. Johnstone 1-0.  He did not enjoy any League Cup success as Manager of the Parkhead club, losing in two Cup Finals, but eventually succeeded when he managed Livingston to trophy success in this competition in season 2003/04.

There are also extensive player profiles on the respective squads for both Semi-Finalists and in addition, other features include an interview with the match referee, a detailed report on St. Mirren’s and Celtic’s “Round by Round” Road to the Semis, a look back at the previous 14 League Cup meetings between St. Mirren and Celtic, a detailed feature looking back at the many players that have moved between both clubs over the years, detailed statistical information on this season’s competition as well as a number of action packed photographs.

The Official Match Programme is available both outside and inside Hampden Park priced £3.00 and is an excellent read.  For all Saints and Hoops’ fans, it is a souvenir worth treasuring.
