Staunton joins Irvine Meadow

Defender goes back to junior ranks

Mark Staunton in action for StranraerOne time Celtic defender Mark Staunton, who commanded a £110,000 transfer fee when he joined Charlton Athletic, has joined Irvine Meadow from Second Division Stranraer.

The 24-year-old left the Parkhead side in 2006 when Charlton Athletic paid for his services, however his time in London was brief and he headed back north the following year to join Falkirk.

Staunton never featured for the Bairns first team, however he gained experience during a loan spell at Berwick Rangers before joining East Fife on a permanent basis in 2009.

After a year at New Bayview, Staunton turned Junior and played for Beith before making the step back to the SFL last season with the Blues and he featured in over 30 games.
