Bell's Third Division preview for Saturday 10-09-05

Stenny swoop for Arbuckle

Joint leaders Stenhousemuir yesterday strengthened their squad when they captured former Hamilton defender Andy Arbuckle.

Arbuckle was out of contract with the First Division club and is a free agent. Stenny manager Des McKeown said; "We have signed him until Christmas and this will give him his chance to get back playing." David McInally is out with an ankle problem as they visit Arbroath who add new signings keeper Mark Peat, Ian Dobbin and Pat Clarke but are without the suspended Alan Brazil, ill Steve Rennie and injured Mathu King while Greg Miller and Roddy Black are doubtful.

Albion Rovers yesterday signed central defender Graeme Mathie who had been released by East Fife. Mathie will go straight into the side to make his debut today against his former club.

Albion manager Jim Chapman said; "Graeme was released by the Fifers just before the closing of the transfer window and that has enabled me to capture him since he is a free agent. He will certainly add strength and height to our defence."

Mathie was previously in England and has also been with Motherwell before joining East Fife. But East Fife, who add recent signing Stuart Noble from Fulham, are without Craig Johnston, Johnny Mitchell and Ross Graham while Graham Port is doubtful.

East Stirling have brought Johnny Walker back to the club just weeks after he left them to join Carnoustie. Said manager Dennis Newall; "Johnny found the travel too much." Walker is suspended today against Montrose whose defender Neil Stephen is out after an operation on his broken nose while Kevin Webster, Duncan McLean and the honeymooning Barry Donachie also are missing.

Leaders Berwick are attracting attention and have been boosted by a new sponsorship deal with Paisley company Stephen Ferrier Bakery providing new training outfits. Gordon Connolly is out with a back injury for the visit to Cowdenbeath who add new signings Mark Baxter and Andy Jackson from St Johnstone and ex-Aberdeen forward Markus Paatelainen, brother of Manager Mixu.

Elgin assistant manager Kenny Black has appealed for all fans to get behind the side against Queen's Park while negotiations continue over his proposed take over. Queen's have Richard Sinclair, knee, and Paul Harvey, calf, doubtful.
