Team of the Week

Craig Fowler selects his first SPFL Team of the Week of 2019/20, with four-goal Lawrence Shankland the star man...

GK - Mark Gillespie (Motherwell)
Livingston were rather unlucky not to get their Ladbrokes Premiership campaign off to a winning start against Motherwell - and the reason they didn't was the opposing goalkeeper. Gillespie made four highlight-worthy stops to keep a clean sheet and earn his side a point.

DC - Cameron Eadie (Peterhead)
Peterhead started off life in Ladbrokes League 1 with a solid 0-0 draw against promotion favourites Falkirk at Balmoor. The home goal was rarely troubled, with Eadie impressing alongside Mick Dunlop at the heart of the defence.

DC - Sean Kelly (Ross County)
The full-back enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Michael Gardyne down the left flank as County returned to the top flight with a bang - the Staggies ran out 3-0 winners against Hamilton Accies.

DC - Harry Milne (Cove Rangers)
Two goals and an assist was the left-back's haul from a tremendously impressive performance as the SPFL new boys set down a marker for the season with a 5-0 victory over Edinburgh City, who are second favourites for the Ladbrokes League 2 title after Paul Hartley’s men.

MR - Scott Allan (Hibernian)
Hibs were able to get their campaign off to the perfect start thanks in large part to their returning hero. Allan always looked the player most likely to provide a piece of magic to break the deadlock against St Mirren and he duly obliged with six minutes remaining.

MC - Russell Dingwall (Elgin City)
The former Ross County player shone on his league debut for Elgin, completely controlling the midfield area as City defeated Cowdenbeath 3-0 at Borough Briggs.

MC - Gregor Fotheringham (Albion Rovers)
After finishing last season strongly in order to avoid relegation, Albion Rovers picked up where they left off with a 3-2 victory at recently-relegated Stenhousemuir. Fotheringham, along with Giuliano Morena, dominated the midfield area and got himself on the scoresheet.

ML - Ryan Christie (Celtic)
A hat-trick from the midfielder helped get Celtic off to the perfect start as they chase their ninth successive Ladbrokes Premiership title. With an assist to his name as well, surely he is this week's star man? No? Surely. How could he be topped…?

FC - Lawrence Shankland (Dundee United)
Snapped up from Championship rivals Ayr United during the summer after an outstanding season at Somerset Park, the former Aberdeen forward made a dream league debut for Robbie Neilson’s team. Shankland netted all four goals as Dundee United defeated Inverness 4-1 at Tannadice. He is this week's star man.

FC - Sam Cosgrove (Aberdeen)
Two goals from the in-form striker helped Aberdeen see off any European tiredness and a spirited Hearts comeback to win a topsy-turvy encounter 3-2 at Pittodrie on Sunday.

FC - Kevin Nisbet (Dunfermline Athletic)
Nisbet showed he's certainly got the ability to handle the step up from League 1 to the Ladbrokes Championship following his move from Raith Rovers; scoring one, setting up another and leading the line excellently as Dunfermline drew 2-2 with Dundee in the Friday night curtain-raiser.
