The plan to return Third Lanark Football Club back to the Cathkin Park ground they left 45 years ago when the club folded, took another step forward yesterday when a 600 page document was handed over to Glasgow City Council outlining plans to revive the Hi-Hi.
The Council are the owners of the ground that lies in a state of disrepair in the south side of Glasgow and River City actor Simon Weir and Pat McGeady, the uncle of former Celtic star Aiden McGeady, are the men behind the rebirth of the club.
Weir said, “I have spent a lot of time in the past year restoring parts of the ground to show what is possible and the next part of our plan is to bring a Third Lanark side back to playing at the ground regularly.”
“We have applied for a long term lease of at least 25 years and the first 300 pages of the document submitted to the City Chambers on Tuesday outlines our plans. We want to bring the ground alive as a Community Asset where Third Lanark and other sides can play.”
The remaining 300 pages are copies of an on-line petition supporting the return of Thirds with Weir saying, “It is a bit of a tome but it shows the level of support we have across the world to have Third Lanark playing football again.”
