Tribute night for Frank Connor

Rovers fans and former players to honour Second Division winning manager

Former Raith Rovers manager Frank Connor, who led the Kirkcaldy side to promotion from the Second Division in 1987, is to have a Tribute night in the town with players from that team gathering to honour their former boss.

The event takes place at the Abbey Hotel on Friday, March 2 and will include former Rovers, Hamish McAlpine, Gordon Arthur, Jock McStay, Paul Sweeney, Gary Voy, Eric Archibald, Shaun Dennis, Billy Herd, Colin Harris, Andy Harrow, Gordon Dalziel, Ian Gordon, Ian Ferguson, Billy Spence and John Wright.

A spokesperson said, “Most Rovers fans regard the 1994 Coca-Cola Cup Winning side as the greatest ever but it should also be remembered as a culmination of what Frank Connor started back in 1986. Never in 25 years have the players got back together so this occasion is very unique.”

A ticket cost £20 and includes a 3 course meal, a Question and Answer session, and an auction of Rovers memorabilia with any proceeds from the night going towards sponsorship of the club’s Under-17 side and the fundraising Rally Round Rovers.
