Trio in Europa League action

Aberdeen, Motherwell and St Johnstone are all involved in Europa League second-round qualifiers this evening.

Three SPFL clubs - Aberdeen, Motherwell and St Johnstone are all involved in Europa League second-round qualifiers this evening.

Tommy Wright's Saints, who shocked Rosenborg at this stage last season before losing on penalties to FC Minsk, are in Switzerland to face Luzern.

Aberdeen, who hammered Daugava Riga 8-0 on aggregate in the first qualifying round, are up against Dutch side Groningen at Pittodrie.

Motherwell are about to embark on their sixth European adventure in seven years. Stuart McCall's men welcome Stjarnan, currently second in Iceland after 11 games of their domestic season, to Fir Park for the first leg.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes: "No disrespect to Riga but this is a big step up. Groningen look like a team that is improving as well. If you look at the way they finished the season, I'm sure they would expect to do even better this time.”

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall: "People will have us down as favourites but Stjarnan are certainly no mugs. They are a well-drilled, fit, disciplined side. I’ve read in the paper that they will come here and sit in, but they have attacking players who are more than capable of hurting us."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright: "We have proved that we know what it takes to get a result away from home in Europe but we need everyone to be right on top of their game."

Europa League qualifying round two, first leg
