Falkirk Technical Director Alex Smith hopes the Bairns can at least finish second this season if they are unable to overhaul both Hamilton and Dundee in the Championship.
A recent 3-0 defeat to Alloa looked to have ended their title challenge but a recent good run has moved Falkirk to within four points of the leading pair.
Smith said: “We were low after the Alloa game but we lifted the players by pointing out that, due to the introduction of the play-offs, there were still two prizes to aim for.
“If you finish second you have one less tie to play. The fact that we had two targets to aim for made things look a lot better and the players have hardly put a foot wrong since.”
