Dundee United beat Dundee 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Dens Park as both teams progressed from Betfred Cup Group C.
Paul McMullan gave Ray McKinnon's men the lead just before half-time but Mark O'Hara equalised for Neil McCann’s side on the hour mark.
The Dark Blues hit the post in stoppage time before United won on spot-kicks, with keeper Harry Lewis denying Roarie Deacon after Scott McDonald had scored. Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Logan Chalmers also saw their efforts saved.
The draw for the last 16 was made after the game and the sides will meet again at Dens Park on August 8/9 for a place in the quarter-finals!
