Dumbarton boss Ian Murray has made St Mirren defender David van Zanten his second signing of the summer.
The 32-year-old former Hibs, Morton and Hamilton full-back joins recent recruit Scott Taggart at the Bet Butler Stadium.
Murray told the club website: "He's played at the highest level in Scotland and is top-flight quality. A player of his calibre opting to join us is a very good sign.
"I'm pleased to have him as part of our squad as his experience will be invaluable in the season ahead."
Meanwhile, experienced striker Colin Nish has agreed a new deal with the Sons for 2014/15.
