Hibernian Premier Sports Cup

Viaplay Cup Semi-Final Key Players – Hibernian

Some of the vital players in Nick Montgomery’s squad ahead of their last four match

Lewis Miller

The Australian defender has become a key figure for the capital club this term and his form was rewarded with an international debut during October’s break.

Blessed with pace, Miller’s ability to support his midfield and recover when facing up against opposition wingers has allowed him to cement his spot in Nick Montgomery’s starting XI.

The 23-year-old possess a long-throw, which has been used to good effect and in Montgomery, the defender has a manager who knows his game inside out.

Miller coped admirably against the threat of in-form Luis Palma in the weekend’s 0-0 draw with league leaders Celtic and he’s sure to be in for a challenging shift when facing the Dons in Saturday’s semi-final.

Joe Newell

When Newell is on form, he makes Hibernian tick with his range of passing and ability to glide through the centre of the pitch enlivening those around him.

The 30-year-old will form a crucial part of Hibernian’s midfield and while Josh Campbell and James Jeggo will be tasked with matching the energy of Graeme Shinnie and Connor Barron, Newell will pit his creative wits against Leighton Clarkson.

The Birmingham-born ace has clocked up over 900 minutes of action in the cinch Premiership so far this season and he clearly has the trust of the Hibernian coaching staff.

An important 90 minutes awaits.

Elie Youan

This is Youan’s first visit to the national stadium and while fellow wide attacker Martin Boyle has been here and shone on the big stage, could Saturday be Youan’s turn?

His derby double against Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle offered at glimpse at the 24-year-old’s potential as he earned a point for his team with two well-executed finishes within 82 seconds of each other.

Youan found the net in both of Hibernian’s matches on the road to Hampden with his pace and willingness to drive into central attacking positions ensuring he is a handful for opposition defenders to worry about.

With six goals to his name so far this season, Hibernian’s number seven is a man to keep an eye on this Saturday evening.
