Vidler praised for honesty

East Stirlingshire striker Billy Vidler has been praised for his honesty after admitting he did not score his first senior goal at the weekend.

East Stirlingshire striker Billy Vidler has been praised for his honesty after admitting he did not score his first senior goal at the weekend.

The 17-year-old was credited with hitting the winner at Albion Rovers but he told chairman Tony Ford that it was an own goal from Marc McKenzie.

Ford said: “I thought it had been a big moment for the kid as, not only had he scored his first senior goal, he had won us the three points. He told me he had to be honest and say he never turned the ball in and that it was actually an own goal.

“A lot of players would have stayed quiet and not let on but Billy felt he should do the right thing. He didn’t want to look back and think that his first ever goal was not really his. Hopefully he can get one for himself this weekend against Whitehill Welfare in the Scottish Cup.”
