Vital victory for Cowdenbeath

Bottom club Cowdenbeath moved to within just a point of Clyde after beating the Bully Wee 1-0 at Central Park in Ladbrokes League 2 on Saturday.

Dale Carrick scored the only goal early in the second half as Gary Locke's men earned a crucial victory in their battle for SPFL survival.

Leaders Forfar Athletic ended their seven-match winless run by seeing off in-form Stirling Albion 3-0 at Forthbank. Jim Lister opened the scoring and Danny Denholm grabbed a double for Gary Bollan's side.

Arbroath, who go to Station Park on Saturday, remain only a point behind after a 5-2 win at third-placed Annan Athletic, who had Steven Swinglehurst sent off after just two minutes. Steven Doris netted a hat-trick and Ryan McCord and Bryan Prunty were also on target for Dick Campbell's men. Peter Weatherson and Jordan Stewart had Annan 2-1 up at one stage.

Montrose are up to fifth spot following a 3-0 home win over Edinburgh City thanks to goals from Andrew Steeves, Paul Watson and Chris Templeman.

Elgin City in fourth, fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Berwick Rangers at Borough Briggs. Greg Rutherford and Aaron Murrell scored for Berwick but Thomas Reilly and Brian Cameron (penalty) squared things up.
